Arenal Volcano Tour

Arenal Volcano is Central America's most active volcano. The area is characterized by its mountains, plains, rivers, lakes, rain forests, and other natural wonders including the Tabacon Hotsprings, Fortuna Waterfall.

Estimated to be less than 3,000 years old, Arenal is a geologically young volcano. During the various cycles of its life activity has been characterized by an alternating of an explosive, effusive phase with one of weak, explosive activity. Major events in recent history begin with the 1968 killer eruption.

Arenal Volcano The Arenal Volcano is a part of the Arenal Conservation Area. The park was established on September 26 the, 1994 . The 12,016 hectares of the Arenal Volcano National Park includes the cantons of Tilarán (Guanacaste), San Carlos and San Ramón (Alajuela).

People come to the volcano today because there are usually at least five mini-eruptions every day, each one accompanied by loud booms and glowing hot lava spilling down the sides of the cone.

The area around is filled with prime opportunities for tourists, like the Tabacon Hot springs, whose geothermal pool are warmed by hot streams which flow from the base of the volcano. Lake Arenal is a great drive as well. A road runs from the town of La Fortuna past a lookout point facing the northern side of El Arenal and continues around the lake and down to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. You could spend days exploring this part of northwestern Costa Rica.
